Director's Letter:
Delegates,
Welcome to McKennaMUN X! I’m excited to be serving as your chair for this conference and hope that you have an enjoyable experience. This is my first year as a member of CMC’s Model UN team and in Model UN more broadly, though I participated in Speech and Debate throughout high school. I’m an International Relations and Economics major at CMC, with a focus in international development and democratic transitions. This committee offers the opportunity to explore serious topics in international affairs with a focus on the policy making capabilities of the African continent – it thereby offers an opportunity to push back on traditional assumptions that international politics are Western-dominated. Delegates will have the opportunity to approach policy with the unique perspectives of the countries that they are representing, presenting approaches to global challenges that are unique to the African continent. I expect delegates to engage in the complex and multifaceted questions that the topics demand, understanding that development, armed conflict, and public health in Africa all pose unique challenges that have implications resonating across the globe.
I look forward to meeting you all in April! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the committee.
Sincerely,
Samuel Johnson-Saeger
