Director's Letter:
Dear Delegates,
My name is Rohaan Bhojwani, and I am extremely excited to be directing this year's McKenna MUN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) as a subsidiary to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Just like all of you, I began my MUN journey in high school. Living between Hong Kong, Bombay, and London, MUN was a constant presence in my life that allowed me to stay grounded amidst a constantly shifting landscape. I also really like to have an excuse to wear a suit! In my senior year, I was the Secretary General of my high school conference, and I am excited to continue this journey through college. Currently, I am a freshman planning to study economics, finance, and data science. On campus, I am a member of CMC’s MUN team and compete on the college circuit. I am also an analyst in the Energy and Utilities Sector at CMC’s Student Investment Fund. I spend my free time skiing at Mammoth, annoying my roommate by waking up at unearthly hours to watch Formula 1, going to see the LA Phil and never being able to find an Uber back, and ordering way too spicy Thai food I can never finish.
While writing this letter in my dorm room, it's currently snowing outside my window. In Southern California. Climate change is one of the most visible and pertinent topics that needs to be addressed by the UN. Carbon emissions are one of the main drivers for climate change, and this guide introduces you to two controversial energy sources: nuclear energy and hydropower. What role will these power sources have in our world's journey to net-zero emissions? That decision lies with you.
I am excited to witness all the unique solutions, interpretations of country stances, and multi-faceted resolutions. If you have any questions about the committee, the procedure, or even CMC in general, please feel free to reach out.
Sincerely,
Rohaan Bhojwani
